Rocky Point Flashback

in Anything Else

Rocky Point has faded into our memories since closing in 1996. Thankfully, those memories are being preserved thanks to the internets. Turn down the volume if you’re at work when checking out Joe Nisil’s Rocky Point site for some pretty cool pics of Rocky Point in its heyday as well as in 2001. This link has also has some pics and other interesting tidbits about the park. The pics are sad to see but the trip down Memory Lane will be worth it.

I used to love the “Cyclone”, going on it time after time after time, getting red-faced and the spins from all the wind. The “Cyclone” was nothing special; it didn’t even have any loops, but it was great and, in retrospect, very shady with all the rust and close calls.

I also remember the clam cakes…
mmm, clam cakes…

I personally liked the Corkscrew. And definately the clamcakes.

The House of Horrors used to be fun as well, if only to yell really loud, scare the smaller kids in line, and huck one at the laughing lady that we all used to liken to one of the nuns at St. Johns.

Which nun was that Ryan? Sr. Claire would have deserved it but I think the lady looked more like Sr. Paulette who was really nice.

Sr. Claire was the typical mystical House of Horrors target on the altar boy outing with Fr. Al. No one could hug a loogey like Jeremy given some motivation! NO ONE liked her, and I know that you had a run in or two with Sr. Claire Hebert!
