Return of the Draft?

Rep. Charles Rangal, Chairman of the House Ways and Means committee, is again introducing a bill to reinstate the draft.  He reasons that America would not have gone to war had a draft been in place, as it is easier to send other people’s sons and daughters to war.  This ignores some very basic facts:

  1.  An all-volunteer armed services has been nothing but beneficial for the country.  Because of it, we have the best trained, most capable, and most intelligent military personnel in the world (despite what John Kerry thinks).
  2. The all-volunteer armed services ensures that those who are there want to be there.
  3. Troop levels are up in an all-voluteer military, in spite of 9/11 and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

This is another example of more brilliant legislation from the Democrats.  The next two years are going to be a wild ride.

And to think, before the 2004 election, Democrats were warning everyone that Bush would bring it back.

He just doesn’t give up. It’s worth noting that Rangel initially introduced this legislation (HR 163) back in 2003 and voted against it when it came for a vote in 2004. The only two who voted for it are Democrats!

I think it’s all a ploy to drum up anti-war sentiment, resurrect the race-card for Democrat political benefit, and frustrate those already volunteering to defend our nation thereby aiding in defeat rather than victory. Like Elizabeth Dole once said on “Meet the Depressed”, Rangel seems like on e of those Democrats who is comfortable with defeat, trying to end the war as quickly as possible for political expediency, not to drive us towards victory. Shame on the national Republicans for neglecting their conservative roots (issues that win in mainstream America), screwing things up so bad for themselves that they left the American people little choice but to leave the Dems are in charge of the future of this country.
