Barry Bonds Breaks Home Run Record*

Barry Bonds hit the 756th home run of his career Tuesday night off of the Washington Nationals’ Mike Bacsik. With this historic shot, Bonds passes Hank Aaron as Major League Baseball’s all-time home run leader*.

* on ‘roids. I’m still a Ruth and Aaron believer. Aaron did not use performance enhancing drugs that messed with his entire metabolism, leading to a bloated head and probably male shrinkage. Plus, Ruth hit 714 homeruns in 22 seasons using a ball that had noticeably less bounce than today’s ball, with a shorter season as well.

While numbers are numbers, I still don’t like it. I think the (*) needs to be put on every record made during the steroids era until the league takes a real look at steroid use in the game. Not just with for-public-consumption investigations, but with real goals and a mission. Let them use or don’t, but Commisioner Selig needs to have a consistent policy with consistent sanctions. That’s the only way to respect real skill with real talent. I must accept Bonds as the new HR Champion, but I will not like it. This cheapens the game in my opinion.
