Mark Penn Tries to Stop the Bleeding

She Who Must Not Be Named’s chief strategist and kabooki handler Mark Penn had a few gems to say during a conference call yesterday in response to his bosses’ poor debate performance Tuesday night.  It was an attempt to stop the political bloodening she sustained in Tuesday night’s debacle of a debate.  Among them were that “[SWMNBN] needs our support now more than ever if we’re going to see this six-on-one to try to bring her down,” that she was “unflappable,” and that Penn is “detecting some backlash” among women voters because of Edwards’ and O’Bama’s attacks on her.

Backlash?  Six-on-one? ”The Politics of Pile on” (a new tape being debuted)?  She’s the frontrunner!  This stuff happens! It just happened to her authentically for the first time.

Penn learned not just to spin, but also to shoot the messenger with saying things like: ”Russert made it appear that President Clinton had done something new or unusual.”  Wow!  Did I miss the entire primary season, political party convention, the general election campaign and the November ballot?  We passed Labor Day and I forgot to pay attention?  I had no idea that she was President already!  I wish the Republicans would hire their own Nostradamus-like Mark Penn figure; it’ll save a lot of time and money over the next 12 months if we already knew the outcome.

Also, is this guy saying that Tim Russert and Brian Williams are part of the vast right-wing conspiracy because for the first time they pushed her to get a straight answer?  I understand that MSDNC is an organization that believes in making the news themselves (remember the 1996 campaign when NBC would take a biased poll, run Dole over the coals, and make it their lead story just to fill in space), but Russert and Williams are friendly aides to their cause.  But, her people also also have to know that she lacks her husband’s political skills and that tearing down the mighty has been the press’ unofficial mission statement since they successfully did in to Nixon in 1974.  And, Mark Penn, so you know, they aren’t done yet.

I found the whole debacle hilarious! Thats what happens when you get in the ring with the boys… it’s like a high school girl joining the football team and then expecting everyone to “take it easy” on her… its truely righteous that she finally get a little of her own medicine,,, I just wonder when the “suicides” of her inner circle are going to start again…

I thought she wasn’t “no ways tired.” I guess that was then …

News flash for “President” Clinton … the Clintons don’t have the only negative spin machine. More than that, she’s not even being hit by one from the Democrats yet. She’s being asked, “What do you mean?” That’s pretty softball stuff. If she can’t handle that, then just imagine her performance in diplomacy … :shudder:
