Feeling Green About McCain

Well, I’m back!

I just moved into a better, swankier place so I was AWOL for a while.  My Internet was messed up and my new and exciting digital cable was all pixelated and unclear until about thirty minutes ago.  But now all is well.

I digress.

John McCain tried to “polish his green credentials” with a campaign stop today in Washington state.  His rhetoric was obviously an attempt to distance himself from Bush, but his approach certainly distanced himself from mainstream conservatives who haven’t yet drank the global warming/climate change Kool-Aid and still believe that there are free-market solutions to our energy woes.

It was one of those moments of despair thinking, “My God, Obama’s going to beat us, isn’t he?  Where will the Conservatives vote in the Fall?”  I felt like Bob Barr’s Libertarian run may actually siphon off sizable votes from disaffected conservatives looking for a protest vote (I wonder if Ron Paul will want to run as Barr’s Veep) this November.

I hope not.  But this was the first instance in a while when the 35-40% of McCain’s views with which I somewhat disagree trumped the majority of things on which we do agree – and that heavy feeling in my stomach returned.

McCain is really screwing up, I agree. I read today Paul will not join Barr and if you look at Barr on the issues, there are too many big issues he leans left on….. I’m just not voting this year….

You may not be alone. I have a feeling that low Republican voter turnout in Red States will possibly make this election closer than it should be. I’m gonna hold my nose, given how bad the alternative would be.

With the candidates that the Dems are putting up, the result that one thinks should occur is what happened in 1984 and 1988. However, the Republicans did not put up a conservative, so this race will be a little too close for comfort.

If Obama becomes president and you don’t vote, you will only have self to blame. Get out and vote which is your right! :)
