Obama, Ayers, and the Chicago Annenberg Challenge

Much has been said on the blogosphere (although little in the Drive-by Media) about Obama’s associations with William Ayers, an unrepentant terrorist who planted bombs at the Pentagon in the late 60s.  Obama has stated that their association was circumstantial.  In a primary debate in April, Obama stated:

This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who’s a professor of English in Chicago who I know and who I have not received some official endorsement from.  He’s not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis.  And the notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was eight years old, somehow reflects on me and my values doesn’t make much sense.

New facts bring a different view to light.  In today’s Wall Street Journal, and expanded upon at National Review Online, Stanley Kurtz brings to light how Obama’s connections to Ayers are more than just circumstantial.  The board that Obama mentions here is for the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which was a radical group founded by Ayers for the purpose or promoting radicalism in Education.

Kurtz outlines how Ayers founded CAC, recruited Obama for its board, and how he directed the group to fund many radical causes such as ACORN.  He also outlines how, as a group which Obama had “Executive Experience”, CAC was considered a failure at its established mission.  Kurtz’s research highlights the ties between CAC, Obama, and Ayers.  Hotair takes the Kurtz piece, and ties together how CAC was a vehicle for Ayers to push his radical terrorist Weather Underground philosophy onto a generation of young Chicago students.

The issues raised deserve much more scrutiny by the Drive-By Press, as they are highly relevant to Obama’s competency as the potential Commander-In-Chief.  Don’t hold your breath, however.  Rather than focusing on this trivial matter, I’m sure the Drive-By’s will be busy with something more important, such as the latest news about Sarah Palin’s private family life.

Crickets from the MSM on this one. Ayers is potentially scarier to the Obama folks than Reverend Wright. If McCain can somehow bring this up tactfully in the debates, the MSM won’t be able to avoid covering it, if only for a little while. I’m just not sure how McCain does that.

Heard a news report today that the McCain campaign will be dealing with the Ayers connection more directly. Any ad they use must contain this pic (WARNING: pic may be very offensive to some) for it will further unite those against Obama and may bring more on board.
