Obama, Redistribution, and “Breaking Free” of the Constitution

A damning interview with Barack Obama from 2001 surfaced on YouTube last night, which expands on and gives us a further glimpse into Barack Obama’s real views on economic redistribution.  In it, Obama, calls the Warren Court, one of the most liberal courts in history and responsible for many of the decisions that trashed the Constitution, not “that radical.”  Obama also goes on to say that the court did not break us free from the “constraints that were placed by the founding fathers of the constitution.”  What becomes obvious is that Obama does not have respect or affection for the principles that this country was founded on, as he feels the need to “break free” from the constraints of the Constitution:

But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society. To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least as its been interpreted and Warren Court interpreted in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can’t do to you. Says what the Federal government can’t do to you, but doesn’t say what the Federal government or State government must do on your behalf, and that hasn’t shifted and one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, um, because the civil rights movement became so court focused I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that.

The “change” that Obama is looking for is changing our entire way of life.  Obama, as he said to Joe the Plumber, wants to “spread the wealth around” and take us from a freedom-based society to a socialist-based society.  Everything that we have on Obama points to that.  His relationships with Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright, his “Community-Organizing” activities with ACORN, his membership in the socialist New Party, his policies and votes in the Illinois Legislature, and his statement to Joe the Plumber.  Is America ready for socialism?  Because if we end up electing Barack Obama, that is exactly what we are going to get.

This stuff should have come out in February 2007. Yet here we are. I hope this gets as much press as possible so that people can see Obama’s pattern of leaning on the side of socialism, despite his dismissive rhetoric.

The principle is simple and true: more the government controls of our lives, the less freedom we have. Obama’s “redistribution” plan, then, would be completely consistent with a desire to mess with the Constitution for populist goals. None of this should be surprising, yet, think about how the Left was nuts of Bush’s non-existent trampling of the Constitution, but here’s their candidate ready to embrace just that notion — with a smile and a shallow and dangerously vague message.

Do you not see that we’re already a socialist nation under THIS administration?

Joe, I don’t disagree with you to a point. The Bush administration has advanced some socialist policies and increased government spending by magnitudes never before seen by a Republican administration. However, in the grand scheme of things, our taxes are lower, we have some good judges who actually look at the Constitution now on the Supreme Court, and much of the unchecked Marxist tendencies of the left have been curtailed by this administration. Obama’s philosophy of redistribution, as well as his belief that we need to “break free” from the constraints of the Constitution make him a dangerous man to be President. This is the most radical person ever to run for the office and have a shot at winning.
