Obama’s Socialist Army

One of the more troubling proposals put forth by President-Elect Barack Obama is that of a civilian defense force.  What it would be used for, no one quite knows.  There has been talk that it would be used for civil service, or for national security.  One thing is certain, it supposedly will have all of the resources of the U.S. Armed Services.  Rahm Emmanuel talks about the need for such a force to combat the many problems Americans face today.

I do not mean to get all conspiracy-theorist here, but civilian forces are typically used in Marxist regimes to control the population.  While it is natural to speculate that it could never happen here, we must nevertheless be vigilant in our opposition to such a force.  Even if Obama does not have designs of Marxist-like control, a force such as this could be a threat to liberty in the hands of a future president.

Ace points out some common-sense practical problems with the civilian force as well, including its high cost and the danger of depriving the military of good recruits.

My gut goes back and forth on this one.  While I think that it is most likely just an Obama Community-Organizer paradise dream of mandatory service, part of me thinks the whole idea is somewhat creepy.  Does Obama have Marxist-control designs on this country?  The truth is, there’s a lot about him that we don’t know, and what we do know is concerning.

If they are thinking of a volunteer Civil Defence force as in NZ or our State Emergency Services here in Oz, they are great assisting in storm cleanup and in natural disasters, but another armed group???? Scarey stuff.

Next is for each political party to have it’s own militia – Shades of the Middle East

This may never get off the ground, though. I recall that Barney Frank wants to trim 25% of the military budget to redistribute to whomever has their hands out at the time.

Another read on all this is that this kind of civilian force would be used by the military in other countries. After we knock off a rogue regime, this civilian force would infiltrate the host nation and begin the rebuilding process quickly and effectively — a financial and HR constabulary surge after a military one. I think that’s an appropriate function and a great idea.

But being consistent with Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, I don’t like the idea of the military doing civilian law enforcement or actions. Whereas I think it would help by the borders, that’s a military application. This Blue Shirt faction Rahm Emmanuel speaks of is a path towards tyranny if I ever heard one. Will the Blue Shirts be loyal to America or loyal to their Leader? Will the Blue Shirt faction intimidate people for political purposes or help them and who will make those decisions as to interpret “help” from “intimidation” or even coersion if the question were to arise?

The CCC was one thing back in the Depression, but we already have local and civilian outlets for the kinds of things Emmanuel wants to accomplish. Obama’s is a top-down approach, not a bottom-up one like he’s been promising.

Posse Comitatus Act of 1878? Practicing for class much? :)

First, I find the idea of Obama creating a Civilian Defense Force an insult to our military. To me, it tells the military that they are not doing their jobs and they are expendable. If we remember, Obama has derided the military during the campaign, so it comes as no surprise that he will attempt to minimize their achivements.

Second, I find this downright scary…this screams Cheka, KGB, Castro Secret Police and Brownshirts combined. Liberals like Obama like to rewrite the Constitution as they see it as a document that could be changed. This is another aspect about he and the “Blueshirts” (I really like that term, Ryan) want to limit First Amendment Rights. Posse Comitatus will also be ignored.

It looks as though the Supreme Court may be busy in the coming years.

The government forcing us to do “civil defense training” sounds like another system of control of the government over us. This in turn equates to loss of personal choice therefore loss of personal freedom. This isn’t American at all. It also sounds like redistributing military tasks and other state agency tasks. What else will be redistibuted under Obama?

Here it is 2 years later and there is still zero move towards any socialist regime by Obama, so this story wasn’t true, it was “made up” by rightwing extremists.

So the takeover of the auto industry, the takeover of the health care industry, and the takeover of the financial sector don’t represent socialism? Really?
