Giants’ Burress Shoots Himself in the Leg

File this one under “Huh?”

A day after being ruled ineligible to play in tomorrow’s game against division rival Washington Redskins due to a hamstring injury, New York Giants’ wide receiver Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg and was rushed to the hospital.  There aren’t too many details at this point.

OK…

Plaxico Burress. He caught the Super Bowl winning touchdown last February, signed a sick five-year $35 million contract with the G-Men, and has caught a pass in every game he’s played in for the Giants.  In other words: a valuable asset to the team.  At 31 (he’s my age) he still potentially has quite a lucrative career left in him as a wide receiver.  Yet, he has a long history of being a punk.  Nonetheless, what the heck is he doing 1) with a gun and 2) shooting it with such reckless disregard for safety protocols, leading to a possible career-ending injury?

Though we don’t know the details yet, I have a feeling this one will fall under the auspices of the phrase “Darwin strikes again” rather than “accidents will happen.”

3. He is a loose cannon.

4. If this continues, Jerry Reese needs to do to Buress what he did to Shockey (I think they are regretting not trading him for Tony Gonzalez).

Word came out that his gun went off while at a Manhattan night club, he was taken to a hospital, but no official police report was taken at the time of the incident. Very sketchy dumbass.
