More Scandal for Obama

As if Barack Obama didn’t have a big enough headache with the Blagojevich investigation, there are now reports that a grand jury is investigating allegations that Gov. Bill Richardson had suspect dealings CDR Financial Products, an investment firm based out of California, that may have included receiving contracts and fees as a result of contributing to Bill Richardson’s PAC.  Richardson is Obama’s appointment to Commerce Secretary, and along with Rahm Emmanuel now becomes the second Obama official to be suspected in connection with a scandal.

This is not a good way for an administration to start, but it should not be any surprise.  Obama comes from the Chicago Political Machine, and he has surrounded himself with Clinton-surrogates, no strangers to scandal themselves.  Team Obama has a long way to go before it catches up to the Clintons in terms of the sheer number and depth of scandals, but they are off  to a great start!  And to think, in the entire eight-year Bush administration, the biggest “scandal” anyone was able to pin on the administration was the dubious process-crime  by Scooter Libby.  Funny how it’s always the Democrat administrations that are  plagued with scandal.

I anticipate two possible outcomes from these investigations — nothing or a little something. This culture of corruption which surrounds Obama and his peeps reminds me of BJ’s first term; remember there were over 90 open investigations on the Clintons and/or their friends during the 1996 Election, which still didn’t help us because the “drive-bys” lived up to their reputation of never following up on a story involving a Dem they like.

They’ll only let these things so far. Some of the people around Obama will probably go down, but I anticipate he will remain suspiciously above the fray for the next few years, unless what they find is too big to ignore.

The Chicago Political Machine is much bigger and more prevalent than anything that ever came out of Arkansas. For him to get anywhere in that city’s politics, he had to be in with Daley and the rest of them. We do know about his ties to Rezko, so I would not be shocked to see a full-blown scandal at some point.
