But Doctors Should Earn A Lot of Money

The Telegraph is reporting that thousands of British doctors earn six figure salaries.  What’s troubling to me about the article is not the fact that British doctors earn so much, but that the tone of the reporting suggests such a high salary is a bad thing.

Becoming a doctor requires more talent, training and sacrifice than most of us can imagine, but the fun doesn’t end there.  Once licensed, doctors face overwhelming responsibility every time they make a decision, inevitable heartache when patients don’t make it, long hours, and little flexibility.  Doctors deserve every penny they earn.  Now that’s not to say the United Kingdom should be renamed the United Socialist Kingdom of Marxist Lawbreakers or anything, but even government-funded doctors should earn a comfortable living.  Doctors are that valuable.

To me, this begs the question of what would happen of Barack Obama and the Democrats are able to pass and implement government-run health care in our country.  Would liberals in this country share the Europeans’ attitude toward doctors making so much money and if so, what would happen to the quality of American health care if doctors were not free to earn as much they do now?

No One’s allowed to get ahead of the pack.

And then there’s the added responsiblity that doctors must shell out huge figures to pay malpractice insurance because Congress, and specifically the Democrats, don’t have the onions to push through tort reform because they like their donations from the trial lawyers are way too valuable.
