Deficits Are Wrong Unless a Democrat Is President

Democrats love to whine about increased deficits whenever there is a Republican President.  They did it after they broke their promise to Ronald Reagan that they would cut spending during the 1980s.  They did it in the 2000s when George W. Bush spent like a drunken sailor even though they wanted to spend more.  Now that Barack Obama has already broken his promise to decrease overall federal spending, a betrayal that even Obama admits will lead to trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see, we’ll see just how intellectually honest are liberal friends are.

By breaking his promise to cut spending before he is even sworn in, Obama will provide more evidence of what conservatives have known all along:  increased spending is what causes deficits.  Conservatives opposed this approach under President Bush and will continue to do so under President Obama because increased spending and high deficits are harmful no matter which party occupies the White House.  In the coming weeks, let’s see if liberals are as consistent and intellectually honest as we on the right.  Or maybe deficits are like homelessness and wars, wrong unless a Democrat is President.
