Al Franken Smacked Down

Via PowerLine Blog, Al Franken recently requested that Gov. Pawlenty certify his election to the Senate.  Gov. Pawlenty smacked him down by pointing out Minnesota Law to the would-be Senator.

I have a duty to follow state law and our statutes are clear on this issue. I am prohibited from issuing a certificate of election until the election contest in the courts has been resolved.

Since the law is crystal-clear on this matter, why would Franken even bother, especially considering that Pawlenty is a Republican?  John at PowerLine speculates as to the reasons.

Al Franken is a joke–even Democrates are worried about him. Do we really need to promote a failed Radio America host to U.S. Senator, but hen I suppose many senators would not be good radio host. He might even fit in. Who knows!

Al Franken won a lot of votes from people who supposed themselves clever when they were in school and ran boys for prom queen.
