Pledging Allegiance To Obama

The worship of The One’s ascension to his throne continues, as Hollywood celebrities recently got together to create a video pledging their allegiance to Obama and to now start doing good deeds. The video is funny, but at the same time somewhat creepy.

Boston Talk Radio host and NRO contributor Michael Graham decided that this was a good thing, so he asked his listeners to call in and make their own pledges (skip to 13:20 in the audio below to hear the pledges).

Graham, in an article in the Boston Herald today, makes some very good points about the

Yes, yes; helping hungry people and being a better parent are good things. But weren’t they just as good a year ago? Eight years ago? Did Eva Longoria really have to wait post-Bush to plant those 500 trees? Had Karl Rove stolen her shovel?

And what happens to these pledges if – Chris Matthews forbid – Obama loses in 2012? Will these celebrities go back to beating their kids, flushing their commodes and drinking their Fiji from a bottle?

America was a nation worthy of our pledges and our passion long before Moore started dating high school kids. And Obama’s success didn’t make America great. It’s a reflection of our nation’s greatness.

Andrew Breitbart at Big Hollywood makes a similar point, arguing that the Hollywood elite left, unlike Conservatives today, only started loving their country again on January 20, 2009.

Conspiracy theories of America’s complicity in 9/11 dominated cocktail party discussions for eight tedious years. They couldn’t simply disagree with Bush. They had to ascribe evil to his motivations and make sure the whole world agreed on that flawed premise.

Yet, hating the president doesn’t mean one can’t still help out the country in a great time of need. But many went to foreign countries and demeaned it instead. Called those that disagreed with them rubes and hicks. The elitism of the celebrities against flyover country America could not have been more pronounced. They made a boat-load of movies that affirmed this narrow and patronizing world view.

And now they want us back.

We’re all Americans — NOW.

The worship and idolization of Barack Obama as “The One” who will bring change to this country is a fantasy that the Hollywood left has bought into.  The idea that now, today, they are committed to “pledging” to plant trees, be good parents, and help others is typical patronizing symbolism.  Real Americans do noble things all of the time, no matter who is President.  I know that I will not change how I live my life or what I do because Barack is President, just as I didn’t change my life when George W. Bush became President.  Conservatives believe that individuals living their lives and doing good things is something that should and does happen no matter who is President.

I guess that for Hollywood, however, life can now begin, because their savior has come to save them from the evils of George W. Bush, Conservatives, and ordinary Americans.
