Barack Obama The Anti-Lincoln

The left’s comparisons between Barack Obama and Abraham Lincoln have been nonstop since before Obama was even inaugurated. Less than a week after taking office, Obama has proved that not only is such a comparison absurd on its face, but that he is an anti-Lincoln.  During last Friday’s unpopular news dump hour, Obama issued an executive order abolishing the Mexico City Policy, an executive order which prohibited the use of U.S. tax dollars to fund abortions overseas.  In abolishing the Mexico City Policy, Obama has shown a willingness to zealously promote abortion, modern America’s greatest moral failure.  This is most un-Lincoln thing Obama could have done.

One of the reasons why Abraham Lincoln is recognized as the greatest President in American history is he used the Presidency to lead the effort to abolish the greatest moral failure of his time, legalized slavery.  The concept that one human being could own other human beings, forcing them into labor, exposing them to cruel punishments, and even dividing families against their will was a slap in the face to the dignity of every human being.  It was cruel.  It was evil.

When Lincoln campaigned for the Presidency, he merely opposed the extension of slavery, a modest but commendable agenda at the time.  As the Civil War progressed, Lincoln upped the ante by issuing the Emancipation Proclamation, which granted freedom to slaves in Confederate-controlled territories and provided a moral justification for a increasingly unpopular war.  He then pushed to outlaw slavery in the United States, a dream that was realized in the form of the Thirteenth Amendment after he was assassinated.  In short, Lincoln led the effort to abolish his country’s greatest moral failure and succeeded.  This, coupled with his wartime leadership that preserved the Union, caused Lincoln to go down in history as the greatest President in American history.

Like Lincoln, Obama governs a nation that condones an evil practice.  A brief glimpse inside the womb shows us the precious life that lives inside a pregnant woman.   A human being from the moment of conception, the unborn baby has its own brain, beating heart, unique facial features, and brain waves in the first trimester.  As the pregnancy progresses, the baby gains the ability to sleep, dream, and even display its own personality.  That’s a baby in there.  Unfortunately, over 49 million innocent babies have been killed inside the womb since Roe v. Wade, usually by the most barbaric means imaginable.

After the abolition of the Mexico City policy, it is clear that Obama is the polar opposite of Lincoln.  Rather than confronting the country’s greatest moral failure, Obama is promoting it by using taxpayer dollars to export it overseas.  There are many words to describe such a policy.  Lincolnesque is not one of them.

This is one area where I agree with Obama.

The Global Gag was a cynical and ruthless attempt to impose The Bush/Regan morals on other countries.

I think you miss the point. The executive order by Bush/Reagan was to prevent U.S. Federal Taxpayer dollars from funding abortions oversees. Why should our taxpayer money go to funding abortions in Africa?

The reality was that any centre that even referred a patient on lost their funding, even if they refused to provide abortions.

It was an idealogical decision on their part, just as Clinton and now Obama made their own idealogical decison that it was OK.

It’s legal in the US, but be damned if you’re allowed to even remotely discuss it if our money’s involved….

Reality is, Obama/Clinton are little different from Bush’s/Regan in the decision based on their own position on the subject, just they didn’t try to impose a block on something that is legal in both contries involved.

At the end of the day, you support the Gag based on your ethical position, which I respect, just as I opposed the pricipal of the Gag based on my ethical position, which I understand may be repugnant to you.
