Squishy RINOs to Support Stimulus?

At least according to Harry Reid, there are at least two Republicans who will support the Porkulus Bill:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters Thursday that he has enough votes to pass a more than $900 billion stimulus bill out of the Senate.  Reid said he believes at least two Republicans of “good will” would support the Democratic-crafted package. “Do we have the votes? We believe we do,” said Reid, who expects a final vote on the package will be held on Thursday. It appears the stimulus would attract only a few GOP votes, however, and Senate Democratic leaders distanced themselves from earlier hopes that the economic recovery could draw more Republican support. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), vice chairman of the Democratic Conference, said the notion of attracting 80 votes for the package in the Senate is a “distant memory.” “We’d rather pass a good bill with 65 votes,” said Schumer.

Now, this may well be boasting by Harry Reid without backup, but I wouldn’t put it past a few of the RINOs in the Senate to support this monstrosity of a bill when it comes up for a vote.  Republicans have a chance here to actually demonstrate their opposition against a really bad piece of legislation, legislation so bad that the non-partisan CBO says that it would actually be better to do nothing than to pass the stimulus.  It’s time for the Republicans in the Senate to do what the Republicans in the House did, and kill this bill.

Update: Sources over at RedState show that Specter and Voinovich are voting against the bill, while the Bobbsey Twins Snowe and Collins are both unsure.

Update II: Harry Reid now is saying he does not yet have 60 votes.

Update III: After saying that they WILL pass a bill today, and that they can’t go another day and let Wall Street Open again without a stimulus, the Democrats cave for the night and quit at 9:00 PM.  The fight continues tomorrow.

9:00 PM. They’re really giving it their all, aren’t they, and are sure concerned about Wall Street. I’ve worked longer than that on volunteer activities.

9PM, just in time for late night happy hour in many DC adult beverage establishments…probably a few on Capitol Hill. Burning the midnight oil, my rear.
