Obama Signs Order to Destroy Construction Jobs

It has already been well-documented how the Stimulus bill will actually contract the economy, but now a new executive order that has gotten little attention has been signed by Obama that will destroy the construction industry.  The construction industry is already hurting, but this new legislation will make government contracts (including the few so-called “shovel-ready” jobs that are part of the economic stimulus bill) only be given to union construction firms.  84% of U.S. construction workers are not unionized, so this order effectively forces most construction companies to unionize if they want to see any government contracts.  GOP Chair Michael Steel responded to this order:

President Obama’s executive order will drive up the cost of government at a time when we should be doing everything possible to save taxpayer dollars. Federal contracts should go to the businesses that can offer taxpayers the best value – not just the unions who supported the Democrats’ campaigns last year. Quietly signing executive orders to payback campaign backers undermines Obama promise to change Washington. It is a disappointment for Americans hoping for more transparency and less politics as usual in Washington.

How is this good for the economy?  Who benefits from this?  Obviously the labor unions, to whom the new Obama administration has been like Christmas virtually every day.  In big cities such as New York and Chicago, however, organized crime also stands to  benefit from this order.  Which makes sense, considering that Obama is a product of the corrupt Chicago Political Machine.

Change you can believe in.
