The Tea Party movement received a major endorsement this week, with former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich now pushing the April 15 National Tea Party. Gingrich’s endorsement of the event lends it major conservative credibility to the tea party protests.
Gingrich’s involvement may also have electoral consequences. Gingrich articulates conservatism well, and his involvement with the Tea Party will go over well with the base. As a strictly political move, it helps position Gingrich in a leadership role among the grassroots, and gives him a notch in his belt as he prepares for a possible run for President in 2012. Either way, having Gingrich stand with the grassroots in such a visible way as part of these nationwide protests is a good thing for the movement.

I still believe that Newt is a message guy and probably would not make a great President. In fact, I think that role would constrain him. Nonetheless, I agree that his involvement in the Tea Party USA Movement gives it some philosophical legitimacy to those on the Right who are maybe cautious in regards to the protesting. We need as many high-profile people involved with this as possible.
Gingrich is an adulterer and a bigot. If he serves as a prime spokesman for this movement, it suggests something dark and sinister about the motives of the people behind all of this. We pay taxes to support the commons. Gingrich and his ilk have used our tax dollars to enrich the bankers on Wall Street and the investor class. Wake up America. These so-called Republicans wear two faces.
