What Did She Know and When Did She Remember It

An important story worth watching last week was that of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and when she knew about the Enhanced Interrogation Techniques (EITs) used on Gitmo detainees.

At first, she knew nothing about the EITs being used until the general public did:  “We were not, I repeat, we were not told that waterboarding or any of these other enhanced interrogation methods were used [on detainees].”

Then, here’s what she said earlier this week, parsing words like a seasoned politician.

Now here’s an unclassified document which says something very different from a few years ago!  Look closely to the memo and notice that September 4, 2002, was the date that she was briefed on the EITs used on detainee Abu Zubaydah.  We now know that he had been waterboarded at that time.  So, either Pelosi was lying about what she knows or she’s completely incompetent.  (I’d argue it could easily be both!)

Her back-peddling continued yesterday, when she said that she was told that the EITs were lawful, though she made sure to throw Leon Panetta at CIA under the bus quoting him saying, “the descriptions provided by the CIA may not be accurate.”  She’s such a brave politician.  Can’t wait to see if this keeps going into next week!
