George Tiller Gunned Down

Controversial late-term abortionist George Tiller was shot and killed by a lunatic earlier today at a church in Kansas.  Today’s shooting is tragic because it ended a human life and will undermine the  pro-life cause.

In coming weeks, the mainstream media’s long-standing pro-choice bias will resurface.  The media will attempt to lump all pro-lifers together with the person responsible for today’s murder by blaming the pro-life’s side rhetoric (i.e. accurately describing the act of stabbing of a baby in the head with a pair of scissors as murder) as the “but for” cause of the shooting.  Because the strongest argument against legalized abortion is the accurate description of what abortion actually does, the media’s upcoming campaign to blame the debate itself for the shooting is likely to be effective.  For the next several months, every time a pro-lifer tries to explain why they oppose abortion, the debate will shift to the appropriateness of the rhetoric rather than the issue itself.  That, coupled with the visible images of violence from a self-described pro-lifer, can only help the pro-choice side.

Today’s shooting should underscore the fact that people cannot argue to protect human life if they are prepared to kill a human being themselves.  My message to today’s shooter:  Thanks for nothing.

P.S.  I would also like to add that as difficult as may be to have sympathy for a monster like Tiller, we must try.

Hopefully those who are on both sides will acknowledge this is the act of a madman and does not reflect the vast majority of those who are against abortion.
