Obama’s Inspector General Problem

All government agencies have a position of Inspector General, which is supposed to be a non-political appointment that has the job of auditing and ensuring proper use of the People’s money, and to enforce ethics and the rule of law within the government agencies.  As noted by statute, an Inspector General can only be fired by the President by notifying Congress 30-days prior of the intent to fire, and by providing cause for the firing.

Yesterday, Obama gave notice to Congress that he was firing AmeriCorps Inspector General Gerald Walpin, simply because Obama had “lost confidence” in him.  No other cause was given.  Digging deeper, it seems that Walpin was fired for doing his job.  He uncovered fraud and abuse in funds allocated by AmeriCorps that were used by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson’s nonprofit group Saint HOPE Academy.  These funds were used for political purposes, which Walpin uncovered.  Walpin also uncovered fraud and abuse between AmeriCorps and the City University of New York (CUNY) as well as between AmeiCorps and La Raza.  Because these groups had heavy ties to Obama (and Michelle Obama in particular), it appears that Walpin is losing his job to cover up political corruption.

Obama has slowly attempted to seize power and minimize the Legislative branch of government while maximizing his own (by appointing non-accountable Czars to oversee everything).  This is yet another attempt to end-run around the Congress by firing an appointment meant to weed out corruption to cover up corrupt practices.  Bush got grief from the Democrats for firing U.S. Attorneys, over whom he had complete authority to do so, for any reason.  Obama is firing someone that is under Congressional oversight, without cause.  Will the Democrats in Congress continue to roll over and let Obama usurp the proper role of the Legislative Branch?

My guess is: that’s a big 10-4, good buddy.

Obama is covering his tracks and hiding something. This is very shady. It’s only a matter of time before he’s impeached and possibly convicted of some crime.
