This CNN video is amusing. In it, the CNN anchor Don Lemon asks an African journalist Nkepile Mabuse about the enthusiastic reception of Obama by the African people. Specifically, Lemon asks if the dancing, the excitement, and the cheers are “unprecedented” in the history of American political visits to Africa. The question is worded in such a way that it is apparent that Lemon expects the answer to be “yes.” Mabuse replies however, that it is not unprecedented, and that in fact a similar welcome was given to President Bush.
Mabuse’s answer obviously flusters and surprises Lemon, who doesn’t know where to take the interview after Mabuse has the audacity to say that Dear Leader isn’t getting special, unprecedented treatment. Watch Lemon’s reaction as Mabuse says the words “it’s not unprecedented.”
