Terror in Jakarta Targets Foreigners

Obama Administration Newspeak:  Unfortunately our overseas contingency operations failed to stop a man-caused disaster which took the life of at least 18 non-Americans in Jakarta, Indonesia, at the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton Hotels today.  No Americans were killed, but at least five were wounded.

Regular-Person Translation:  Islamic terrorists set off bombs at two hotels in Jakarta, aimed at killing as many non-Muslim foreigners as they could.  Five Americans were wounded and at least 18 others were killed.  Dozens of others were wounded in the attack.

Secretary of State Clinton was released from her cage today to condemn the bombings in obligatory terms, as did the EU, Australia, and the Indonesian government.  Jemaah Islamiyah or one of its affiliates is probably behind the attacks, which mark the first time in four years that Indonesia has had a high-profile terrorist attack.

Their target was Westerners.  Nothing recruits terrorists more effectively than successful attacks.  As Bin Laden infamously once said: “When people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature they will like the strong horse.”  Let’s not be that weak horse again and strike back at these groups hard because, unfortunately, this attack will probably encourage copy-cats and embolden those already in position to strike the United States and the West.
