Bringing Terrorists To Our Shores

The Obama administration is floating a new trial balloon for the ultimate disposition of the detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (a.k.a. Club Gitmo) after the closing of the prison facility on January.  Apparently, the administration plans on setting up a prison/military court system complex in Kansas and Michigan, bringing the terrorist scum from Gitmo to U.S. soil in January, 2010.

Now, that will be a fun debate to have.  This is one area where I see the members of congress splitting with their dear leader, in preparation for the 2010 elections.  What Congressman or Senator wants to go home to their constituents to tell them that they were complicit in allowing terrorists in their home state?

Obama’s pledge to close Gitmo has become an albatross around his neck.  He has to do something to please the loony, lefty fringe, and make good on the first executive order of his Presidency (he should have punted on it, pledging to “study” the issue and not give a definitive date).  By placing a date on the closing of Gitmo, Obama is left with the problem of what to do with the prisoners.  No other country in the world wants them, so his choices are to create another Gitmo on some other remote island, release the prisoners, or bring them back to the States.  To that debate, I say, bring it on.  It is a sure winner for us and a certain loser for Obama.
