Minding my own business at the movies, in between turning off my cell phone and digging into a bag of Sour Patch Kids, one of the numerous upcoming movie trailers caught my attention. Where the Wild Things Are, a 1963 children’s book by Maurice Sendak which was still popular when I was a kid, is being adapted into a live-action movie due to be released October 16! Here’s the trailer:
The tune is Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up.” Some of the older kids might remember this little trippy video from back in the 1970s! It should be a great children’s film, which the kids’ll love and some adults will definitely appreciate the nostalgia. The book was definitely written on two levels: a plain kid-friendly level and a deeper psychological one. I hope those who’ve developed this adaptation keep both those levels in tact. Movie adaptations can sometimes go horribly wrong when the source material is not respected.

One of my favorite lines from any literature:
“And now,” cried Max, “let the wild rumpus start!”
