The War Against Fox News

The Obama administration is sure spending a lot of time attacking Fox News.  White House Communications Director Anita Dunn made a point of it, saying that Fox was wing of the GOP:

We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent.  As they are undertaking a war against Barack Obama and the White House, we don’t need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave.

The comments by Dunn elicited sharp rebukes by Fox News personalities Brit Hume and Neil Cavuto, both who eviscerate Dunn and her attacks:

The sharpest attack, however came from Glenn Beck, who in classic Beck fashion dug up some dirt on Anita Dunn.  Earlier this year, she gave a commencement address in which she declared her favorite political philosophers to be Mao Tse-Tung and Mother Theresa.  Now, I have no trouble with Mother Theresa, but Mao Tse-Tung? The dictator who is responsible for communism in China and mass murder?

Now, I highly doubt that Dunn supports genocide, but it goes to the heart of the problem with liberals.  They look at America as the origin of the world’s problems.  They coddle dictators and thugs such as Mao, Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, Yassir Arafat, and others, ignoring their atrocities because of their kinship in political philosophy.  What does this say about Dunn?  It’s too easy to throw the “Communist!” charge out there, and it is often overused, but does it apply there?  What do you say of someone who says that their favorite political philosopher is Mao Tse Tung?  What if they said Karl Marx?  Would the label “Communist!” then apply?

When a White House goes after the only news organization that challenges it and tries to discredit that news organization, what does that say about that White House?  Are they simply thin-skinned, or are they seriously attempting to do away with any and all criticism?  It is a battle they will lose.  Even the New York Times finds the whole episode a foolish play by the Obama Administration, as Presidents have never been able to score points against the press.  Still, at the end of the day, what we have is a communist-sympathizing White House Communications Director trying to silence the only television media outlet that is not state-run. What does that say about Obama and his plans for this country?
