Scott Brown Within Single Digits of Coakley

There were signs that something is going on in Massachusetts and now we have some empirical evidence.  According to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll, Republican Scott Brown trails Democrat Martha Coakley by single digits in the upcoming special election to fill Ted Kennedy’s old Senate seat.  Nine points is still a significant margin, but this is a special election.  The lower turnout typically seen in special elections makes the true state of the race tougher to gauge.  At a minimum, this Rasmussen poll shows Scott Brown within striking distance of the “close second” that would send shockwaves through the national Democrat Party and boost the conservative cause.

If the heir apparent to Ted Kennedy has trouble in Massachusetts, many Democrats who supported Round One of Obamacare may just s&!t their pants and think twice about doing so again.  That’s even if Brown loses but keeps it close.  If Brown can keep campaigning like he is and Coakley keeps taking the overconfidently invisible path rather than risk igniting the bitch factor, then the unthinkable will be thinkable.  The Republican Senator in Ted Kennedy’s seat could be the vote that drives Obamacare underwater.
