Rep. Mike Pence Will Not Challenge Evan Bayh

Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) will NOT challenge Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) in this November’s Indiana Senate Race, as initially thought.  Pence would have been a good choice to challenge Bayh, as he held a lead in early polls.  Now, Bayh stands a better chance of winning in November, although another potential Republican challenger, John Hostetler.  So, while this is certainly good news for Bayh and the Democrats, they should not celebrate yet.  Assuming  a good political environment for the GOP in November Bayh still looks vulnerable.

Pence can probably do more good in the House leadership than as a freshman Senator anyway.

Very true. I am hoping that in a few years, we may end up talking about “Speaker Pence.”

State Senator Marlin Stutzman for US Senate!

Marlin’s traveled the entire state, campaigned for quite a while (I met him at the Vanderburgh County fair last summer), and with the support of conservatives and independents alike, Marlin’s a fresh face to Washington DC, but also an experienced legislator. He’s young and energetic, and has shown a real commitment to Indiana. Hostettler is a late-arrival who only entered after the opportunity fully presented itself. To contrast, Marlin’s been a steady as a rock in this fight against Bayh’s big government and we need to support him.

Lord knows that Marlin put his heart and soul and financing in this when no one else would stick their neck out. That is the character we need.
