The Oregon Trail Leads to Michigan

Metaphorically, that is.  The voters of the State of Oregon yesterday passed ballot resolution that raised taxes on those making over $250,000 / year, and on businesses, including a higher minimum corporate tax and a surcharge on profits.  So let me get this straight.  Increase taxes on the people that buy things.  Increase taxes on the entities that hire people.  Increase taxes now, in the middle of the worst recession in thirty years.  Smart.

While I respect the principles of federalism and the will of the voters of the State of Oregon, it is unfortunate that the people of Oregon have made a choice to ruin their economy.  The people of Oregon have decided to put themselves on the path to economic ruin, much like the State of Michgan.  Run by liberals for a generation, Michigan now stands in ruin.  Oregon, you’re next.  Don’t say we didn’t try to warn you.

“The people” of Oregon who voted for the stupid tax only amount to a little better than half the population.

The other half of us tried hard to stop the measures.

Things are bad here and only going to get worse. In my county the last unemployment number came in at 17% which did NOT include me or my daughters who, after months of trying to find work, simply gave up. There are a lot more like us.

Our local mall was just turned over to the bank by its owners; currently there are somewhere between 5 and 8 vacant stores, one a major anchor spot. With this new tax I only see more contraction of business, more job loss, and of course the state will find it does NOT receive the projected revenues from this tax. What will they do? They will figure out more taxes to levy.

One of the problems we have here is that, instead of calling taxes “tax” they call them “fees”. That way the entranced sheeple continue in the delusion that they are in one of the lowest taxed states in the nation. Oh…and we are especially well-off (can you hear the sarcasm?) because we’ve never instituted a sales tax!

Research Oregon’s public sector retirement plan…PERS…the fat retirements for public employees is one of the big problems we have here. Where else can you get paid more in retirement than when you were working? Where else can you retire, start collecting your pension, and go back to work in your old job for full salary while still collecting your retirement as some of our teachers did a few years back. Blecchh…

Help…I want out of Oregon!

As one of the thousands of people in Oregon looking for work, the stupidity of people that voted for these taxes is just amazing! I have to wonder how the other unemployed people in this state are feeling this morning. Personally I feel sick! How do you expect to get this State back to work by raising the costs for the companies that could have provided those jobs! We are already hearing about companies that have laid off people because of the passage of these Measures! Just the tip of the iceberg I suspect! UNBELIEVEABLE! I share one of the most beautiful states in our country with a bunch of idiots!
