Flooding in New England

As you may have noticed, my blogging has been non-existent the past few days.  This is primarily because New England has had its worst streak of rainstorms in the last fifty years, and its worst flooding in a century today, with roads closed all over New England.  For me, this meant four inches of standing water in my basement and garage, so it’s been water removal that has been taking up all of my time.  While engaging in such riveting activities as hauling water in 12-gallon increments with a wet/dry vac, waiting in lines for utility pumps, and attempting to remove objects that were stored in our basement to other locations, I’ve come up with these random thoughts in relation to the flooding:

  • This, of course must be the result of man-made global warming.
  • I had just been saying to MrsSal the other day that I could use a day off from work.  This isn’t what I had in mind.
  • This is Gaia’s punishment on Massachusetts for electing a Republican to the U.S. Senate
  • It was quite a surreal experience to stand in line at a hardware store with about 20+ other people and have to take a number in order to get one of the few utility pumps that were to be delivered to the store within the hour.
  • My wife went out yesterday today to purchase a pair of stylish rain boots…so she could slosh around in our basement.
  • Four inches of water is a LOT more than it sounds.
  • This, of course, is the fault of George W. Bush.  He caused the rain, the flooding, and my basement to turn into a wading pool.
  • A gallon of water in a basement full of it is really not that much at all.
  • I thought that the oceans would recede and all the world would be at peace once Obama became President, purely as a result of his utter awesomeness?

Blogging will continue to be sparse, at least from me, until next week, as I continue to work to drain out my basement and garage, and also enter into the Catholic celebration of Holy Week.  I may post the occasional story, but I’m taking a break.  I need the time to help focus on the real important things in life.

Sorry to hear about Mass getting nailed and the new pool in the basement. Rhode Island’s armpit (my home town of West Warwick) is still floating away (hopefully to some place nice). I made my escape from Water World to Jersey this morning. Luckily, my family lives up on a hill so the Pawtuxet River (21 feet more of that stinky river than I EVER wanted to see) almost prevented my means of escape!

Just a few weeks ago, Northern and Central Jersey had record floods (I couldn’t drink the water for three days!). I guess I’m just bad luck!
