Obama: Let’s Drill!

Tomorrow, the Obama Administration is set to reverse a 20-year ban on offshore drilling because:

“The bottom line is this — given our energy needs, in order to sustain economic growth, and produce jobs, and keep our businesses competitive, we are going to need to harness traditional sources of fuel even as we ramp up production of new sources of renewable, homegrown energy.”

However, here was Senator Obama back during the 2008 campaign on this very issue:

I know that was, like, a million years ago, but it does reek of hypocrisy.  Apparently now we’re hurting enough to change his point of view on offshore drilling.

OK, but this is sure to upset a number of environmentalists… umm, well, probably not.  Remember the sound of crickets coming from NOW during Zippergate in the 1990s?  I mean if there ever was a time that a woman’s organization would come out against sexual harassment by the most powerful man in the world that would have been it!   Alas, no.  The Liberal forces at work were too powerful.

I have a feeling that the environmental lobby will be mostly muted too, given that this may be sold to them as a foot-in-the-door to government control of the oil industry.  Of course, this could just be a payoff for Virginia Senator Jim Webb’s vote on Obama Care too.  That or Obama has come to his senses… nah!

Hat tip: Malkin.

Sarah has something to say about this. Good point about political posturing to Webb and VA. I believe this is all bells and whistles…did not agree to drill offshore in the Pacific or off AK. Furthermore, I believe that under the radar, Ken Salazar and those in the Interior will gladly tell the environmentalist whackos “sue us…bring it on.” By doing this, they are basically filibustering; window-dressing so Obama can say “I’m meeting you halfway,” but not getting overly annoyed about the legal action to commence.

This is another smoke screen to con the American people. Mr. Obama is just fishing for votes to off set that heathcare mess he created. If anyone believes that he is going to allow drilling should take another look at what canidate Obama said. His views on energy independence are about as truthful as his views on being pro choice.
