Gates: We Have No Long-Term Plan on Iran

Can’t say I’m really shocked.  A three-page memo from Defense Secretary Robert Gates indicates his frustration with the Obama Nation’s lack of a long-term strategy on dealing with Iran.  Of course the administration denies having no plan to deal with a potential nuclear Iran… I guess we’ll just wait and see;  the memo was from January and the administration is sure that everything’s just peachy now.

I have two other observations about this memo:  first, with Gates having also worked for the Bush Administration, he’s in a pretty good position to know and be worried about any inaction or poor planning by this liberal-progressive America-is-the-problem administration — say what you will, but the Bush people at least had contingencies; second, that we have another leaked memo from the Defense Department with “unnamed government officials” commenting on a memo that probably should never have seen the light of day — I didn’t like it when Bush was president and I still don’t like it now.  We aren’t the only ones who read American news.

Sorry Ryan, have to disagree on that.

Gates has clearly stated that is not the case and that his memo was focussed on the need (and request from Obama from what I have read) to update the plans to take ito account the moves to hide new facilities and to protect them with hi-tech Russion AA missiles (Bloody Russians playing both sides).

I have said it before, I believe the greatest failing of the Bush era was to go into Iraq instead of taking Iran on before they got to this advanced stage. I can live with another bloody dictator (hell we’ve supported enough of those), what I have no desire to live with is a meglomaniac bent on destroying Israel and the rest of the world if needs be to further his mad ‘Islamic World’ dream.

I live in hope that Obama will have the balls to do something SOON if Russia and China refuse to fall into line on CRIPPLING sanctions.

Next weekend is ANZAC weekend here when we remember the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who fought at Gallipoli in WW1 (even the Turks remember and praise them). War is shit but sometimes essential and can forge a nation’s identity. Also a reminder that politicians and remote generals make dumb-ass decisions but the guys on the front line ‘dig in and do’.

Pacific is showing down here at present. Brilliant and so real to Australia (The Japs got to less than 100 Miles from our coast). Also shows the reality of my ‘dig in and do’ comment. While it doesn’t show the Aussies fighting the Japs to a standstill in New Guinea, it very clearly shows the real contribution of the Marines.
