Former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens was killed in a plane crash today at age 86.  Authorities at this moment are still not releasing info regarding who else on board this single-engine plane was killed, but we do know that some survived.

Stevens was the longest serving Republican Senator in American history with a long and distinguished career which began by appointment in 1968.  However, his long tenure in office also explains his “Bridge to Nowhere” infamy and how an unrelated corruption trial ultimately ended his career in 2008.  He cared deeply about Alaska usually saying, “the only special interest I care about is Alaska,” and was true to that motto.
