Sen. Kent Conrad

Here we are only 18 days into January, and we already have a Red-state Democrat announcing that he is not seeking re-election — two years before the actual election.  Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) has become the second Democrat Senator from North Dakota in just over a year to announce his retirement.  Last January, Sen. Byron Dorgan announced the same, and his seat was picked up by Freshman GOP Senator John Hoeven (R-ND).  North Dakota being what it is should present a decent pick-up opportunity for the GOP in 2012.  If we’re already talking about Dem retirements, though, it isn’t looking good for them come November of 2012.
