Tonight’s the Big Game: Steelers vs. Packers!

Tonight is Super Bowl XLV, featuring the Pittsburgh Steelers versus the Green Bay Packers.  Classic teams for what looks to be a classic match-up:   both teams can run the ball, both have mobile and accurate quarterbacks, both have staunch defenses.  Also, both are classic franchises — the Steelers have won a league-best 6 Super Bowl titles, while the Packers produced Vince Lombardi (for whom the championship trophy is named) and Brett Favre (while he was cementing his place in history) both of whom contributed to their 3 Super Bowl wins.  Plus Green Bay’s the only NFL franchise actually owned by its city.

But football is a game of “what have you done for me lately”, and in that sense the Steelers seem to be the team to beat, winning 2 of the last five Super Bowls with a chance for a third in six years.  Here in Central Jersey, nearly everyone seems to be rooting for the Steelers.  I’m usually an AFC-guy in the Super Bowl, but I’m going for the Packers this year because I like Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews, plus Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger is kind of a douchebag.

My prediction:  Packers 27, Pittsburgh 23. (Don’t trust those numbers, folks!)  I’m in an office pool with moderately good numbers so if Pittsburgh has to win, at least I could make money off it!

UPDATEPackers get it done 31-25:  didn’t win any cash and the game was sloppy here and there, but I was entertained!
