The Legend of Zelda

I remember one Christmas back in the late 80s very well.  It was the Christmas I received my classic Nintendo Entertainment System as a Christmas gift, along with what became my favorite game for that platform, The Legend of Zelda.  I spent hours navigating through the land of Hyrule as Link, looking behind every rock, burning trees left and right, to find that last heart container; searching for the Magic Book, the raft, the magic sword, and the silver arrow, and finding every twist and turn in the game in the hopes of defeating Gannon and rescuing Princess Zelda.

The Legend of Zelda’s revolutionary non-linear style of gameplay captivated me then.  Ever since, I have played most of the games in the franchise.  The Legend of Zelda has become my personal favorite video game franchise, and I anxiously await each new title to be released.

Today, The Legend of Zelda turns 25.  In honor of that most awesome of video game franchises, I present two YouTube clips below.  The first is the very cheesy 80s TV commercial for the game (which I still remember), and the second is a retrospective of the franchise.  Happy Birthday Link!

I still find “Ocarina of Time” for N64 to be my favorite game to play: not too difficult or too easy, the world’s not too large, you can put if down for a while and pick it up relatively easily, the story’s good, you don’t have to be a “gamer” to appreciate it, and on and on. What else do you want?
