Deval Patrick Praises Mitt Romney on Health Care

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick doesn’t agree with every decision his predecessor, Mitt Romney, made when he was Governor.  To be fair, Romney probably doesn’t agree with every decision Romney made either.  Nevertheless, it is newsworthy when two political rivals put partisan differences aside to praise each other, and Patrick did just that on ABC News this morning.

Specifically, Patrick explained that Mitt Romney deserved a lot of credit for passing and implementing health care legislation containing a mandate that each citizen purchase health care or pay a penalty.  Many conservatives may read that and wonder if they can believe Romney when he says he will repeal federal health care legislation containing a mandate that each citizen purchase health care or pay a penalty, but that’s unfair.

Mitt Romney’s flip-flopping is a thing of the past.  This is 2011, not 1994, or 2001, or 2002, or 2008.  When Mitt Romney says something, you can take it to the bank.  That newly found consistency, coupled with his ability to pass legislation earning the Massachusetts liberals’ seal of approval make Romney a force to be reckoned with.  Now, if only some candidates would finally step up and start reckoning.  Please.
