Emma Watson to Leave Brown University

Actress Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame has decided to leave her studies at Brown University, perhaps never to return.  Reason being that in her quest for “normalcy” at Brown she bumped into droll Ivy League wit, effete snobbery, and Harvard stalkers.  So, she’s likely going to finish her undergrad work elsewhere.

I have a few things to say about all this.  First of all, Emma Watson will always be Hermione Granger to some, even when she’s 85.  That’s just the way it is:  ask Carrie Fisher how it feels to be stuck in a role forever.  Unless you become the next Bono, the fact remains that once you were a cute little child actress in one of the biggest franchises in movie history.  Secondly, college kids can suck — that’s why Natalie Portman went to Harvard using her real name, Natalie Hershlag, which led to quiet years of study with minimal stalkers.  Emma “Jones” next time, perhaps?

Nonetheless, I do agree with the move.  I’m not a fan of Brown, which like most Ivy Leagues is tough to get into but easy to cruise through.  Though I wish all good things for Watson, famous people have to prepare for stuff like this.

Leaving Brown for good? Nah. I think she went to the Forest of Dean with Daniel Radcliffe
