Osama Bin Laden Is Dead!

in War on Terror

This is the best news the civilized world has heard in a long time.  Osama Bin Laden is dead!  The leader of the Al Qaeda terrorist network that attacked our country on September 11, 2001, is dead.  President Obama will be giving a statement shortly.

UPDATE:  Oh for the love of God.  No MSNBC, this is not the end of the War on Terror.  It is a huge victory, but it is not the end of the War on Terror.

UPDATE 2:  CNN reporting that he was killed in a mansion outside Islamabad.

UPDATE 3:  Barack Obama speaking now.  He finally sounds like a President.  Well done, sir.

UPDATE 4: Drew M over at Ace of Spades:  “I’m not questioning the timing. I’m not worried if it gives Obama a bump in the polls. I’m fucking going to pop some champagne and drink a toast to the military and the memories of those who died on 9/11 and in the War on Terror that followed. I’ll add in George W. Bush and yes, the President of the United States of America.

UPDATE 5:  President George W. Bush releases a statement.

I’m sure we’ll have much more on this one in the days and weeks to come.

I woke up this morning and wasn’t sure the TV said what I thought it said. It’s all pretty damn awesome! We’ll still get details and such as the days go on, but my first feeling was one of justice served that that man no longer breathes and that he’s stewing in hell with those 72 virgins — all of them nerdy male computer geeks who have a “queer eye” for the new Muslim guy.

I’m with Drew M.: whatever poll bounce Obama gets pales next to the sweet success of over a decade of hard work to get Bin Laden — just remember to spill a little booze for those no longer with us.

One issue, though. Aside from everyone at work noticing that Obama used “I” quite a bit in his speech last night (duh — TOTUS loves that word!), I think releasing this info without promptly producing pictures (like we did with Uday and Qusay) causes unnecessary pause in many. Plus, although some news agencies say the DNA tests are in, others are saying we won’t know for days if it was actually him. I have no doubt (unless Obama is truly retarded) that Bin Laden is dead, but this aspect could have been handled more smoothly.

His economics might suck, but Obama showed some balls in approving a direct strike within Pakistan.

I hope Bin Laden’s 72 ‘virgins’ all have a good case of the pox.

Well done team USA!

Politicians get to claim the victory, but let’s remember the team who really deserve the praise for what must have been a very risky attack. A job VERY well done!

I was very happy to see the President use the methods that he has decried for so long (aka, the Bush policies), but I do agree with Ryan…he was way, way overboard with the possessive pronouns and me personally, I would have shown a little more excitment in the fact that the terroist barbarian is dead.

We definitely need to thank the military and our intelligence services for their dilligent work and I cannot and will not sit idly by if this president tries to take credit for the death of Bin Laden over the military. I propose this as “buy a beer week” for anyone who wears the uniform.

In the end, we still have $5/gallon (almost) gas, a heathcare bill that’s crushing job creation, ridiculously high unemployment and coming inflation. He’ll try, but it’s very doubtful he can ride the military’s hard work to victory in 2012.
