What’s a “Bilderberg”?

Europe has a long history of wealthy, well-connected nobles ruling the masses.  In the last 150 years or so, the proliferation of the social welfare state has mollified the plebs, who around that time concentrated in industrial urban centers which could get feisty depending on the demagogue du jour.  Now, Europe is full of acquiescent, child-like, selfish rubes dependent on the state for the basics of life — just the way the ruling class wants it;  the way it’s always been in Europe.

So, it’s no stretch to think that if a creepy anti-democratic political structure like the EU can exist, why wouldn’t an informal group of wealthy, well-connected transnational elites exist?

In steps the Bilderberg Group. Formed in 1954 and named after the hotel in which the first meeting took place, this group wanted a stable world order in Europe — rooting for the good guys back then.  Truth is though, this group goes back hundreds of years and even had Nazi connections once (when the Nazis were the horse to bet on).

If you look at a list of attendees at this year’s meeting, including old Obama OMB director Peter Orszag, then realize how few media outlets care given the state of the world’s economy, the Bilderberg Group opens itself up to suspicion and conspiracy theories.  It’s got an old James Bond SPECTRE vibe and seems like total Beck-bait!

To me, Bilderberg merely seems like another corporatist structure:  they are primarily concerned with how their noble/elite status can remain intact through 1) teaming up with like-minded folks from around the world, and 2) creating the conditions for a beneficial relationship with governments so their cash flow will not only remain fluid, but also so that the plebs’ taxes money is available if trouble comes.

Essentially, corporatism is tailor-made for taxpayer-funded bailouts and pay-offs, the likes of which TARP and the Stimulus are perfect examples.  “Too big to fail” is really a statement admitting that the government and business have already gotten too cozy.

Assuring socialism for the very rich and super poor, but risky capitalism for everyone else may be the agenda of the corporatist Bilderberg Group going forward in this unstable global economic time.  There’s no conspiracy behind that — it’s merely economics, if they can get away with it.
