Rick Perry Jumps Into Lead Among GOP Hopefuls

Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) hasn’t even been in the race for a week, and he has already jumped into the lead according to a recent poll (and yes, it is a Rasmussen poll, so it meets the Axis of Right requirements for a valid poll).  After joining the presidential race on Saturday, Perry has surged to an 11-point lead over his nearest rival, former Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA).  Perry leads Romney 29%-18%, followed by Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) at 13%.  Now, it is early and it is natural that Perry may be experiencing a bit of a bounce, but it is encouraging to know that Romney will have real competition from a real Conservative who has a decent shot at actually defeating The One.
