Barney Frank Will Not Seek Re-Election

Many news organizations are reporting that Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank will not seek re-election in 2012.  The Globe is speculating that redistricting played a role in Frank’s decision, but we won’t know for sure until the Congressman holds a press conference at 1:00 p.m.  I don’t know what Frank is going to say, but I really hope he throws one of his epic hissy fits.  I could use a good laugh on the Monday after a long weekend.

Unintentional comedy aside, it is good to see Frank go.  As you may recall, and as Gateway Pundit reminds us, Frank’s “nothing to see here” attitude toward Freddie Mae and Fannie Mac while they were going under played a significant role in the 2008 financial crisis.  And if redistricting is the reason for Frank’s departure, there is at least a small chance that his successor may be a little less ostrich-like in his statist worldview.
