Whitney Houston Dead at 48

Last night, singer/songwriter Whitney Houston was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room.  We still don’t know the cause of death, but this nonetheless comes as a shock to the music world and to her fans.  May she find peace.

Whitney Houston redefined to the pop music industry what a good-sounding marketable female voice should be.  Every time one watches American Idol and hears someone trying to fit 1000 notes in a spot where five would do, Whitney Houston’s legacy is heard.  She did it right, though.

I was never a fan, but could appreciate her unique talent.  Her best moment for me was singing the national anthem during the Gulf War at Super Bowl XXV between the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants:
