WTC 1: the Tallest in Town

Today the new World Trade Center 1, previously known as the Freedom Tower, officially became the tallest building in New York City, surpassing the Empire State Building, which poignantly regained that record on 9/11.  Today’s milestone is symbolic and important for it’s another sign that the city is recovering with strength and will.

My only issue (and a minor one) is that this milestone seems three or four years too late.  That, and I don’t think I’ll ever get the hang of calling the World Trade Center the World Trade Center.  For this building, I like “Freedom Tower” better — it speaks more to a sense of renewal.
