Making it official, Mitt Romney crossed the 1,144 delegate threshold last night with his win of at least 88 delegates in Texas, ostensibly becoming the GOP nominee to battle Obama in the Fall.  Apparently, this is the latest a Republican shored up the nomination since conventions mattered, yet still about a week sooner than Obama clinched the Democrat nod back in ’08.  Of course, Ron Paul’s minions are still out there gathering delegates to make some kind of stand at the convention, whatever that means.

In what will be a rare bit of sportsmanship Obama called Romney today to congratulate him.  The call was brief and obligatory.  Let’s hope the next congratulatory phone call Obama gives Romney is early on the evening of November 6.
