Mark Steyn pointed out a glaring inconsistency with Boston Mayor Menino’s position on groups supporting gay marriage in his town.

Stepping back for a moment, remember that Chick-Fil-A CEO Dan Cathy said, “We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit.  We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives.”  In response Boston Mayor Menino said, “There is no place for discrimination on Boston’s Freedom Trail and no place for your company alongside it,” and to “back out of your plans to locate in Boston” implying punitive actions on Cathy’s business through the power of the mayor’s office.

An elected official bullying a CEO whose company doesn’t discriminate against gays in any way?  Not a good day for the First Amendment.  Mayor Menino walked back the coercive elements of his statements, as he should have.

However, Steyn reveals a little detail from the Boston Herald‘s Michael Graham who unearthed that Menino provided $1.8 million worth of city land to a group called The Islamic Society of Boston which has a trustee who has openly called for the violent death of gays!  On that obvious bit of hypocrisy, Steyn wits:

In Mayor Menino’s Boston, if you take the same view of marriage as President Obama did from 2009 to 2012, he’ll run your homophobic ass out of town. But, if you want to toss those godless sodomites off the John Hancock Tower, he’ll officiate at your ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Ouch.  Perhaps the gay community will notice that their latest hero doesn’t mind helping those who support murdering gays!  It’s time to sort out one’s priorities, I think.
