“Curiosity” Lands on Mars

Last night the latest Mars rover, “Curiosity,” touched down on the Red Planet to great fanfare.  Here’s a news report covering the basics:

NASA needs successes since Obama mothballed the space shuttle, made NASA focus on Muslim outreach, and the overall state of the economy has government officials targeting NASA’s budget more and more.  This rover will tell us more about whether or not there was liquid water or even life on Mars at some point in the past, or perhaps even the present.

Having a thriving space program is good for technological innovation as well as making a statement about the spirit of our species to always try to master new frontiers.
