Obama Super PAC Crosses a Line

“Priorities USA Action,” an Obama super PAC, produced this ad which clearly crosses a line:

The gist:  Mitt Romney is somehow responsible for the death of this man’s wife.

Is the left already going there?  I figured they eventually would, but this is backbench, desperation-type stuff in early August.  On top of it all, the whole narrative is dodgy.

Romney was not involved in the day-to-day business at Bain Capital after 1999, as he was working on the upcoming 2002 Winter Olympics.  This man’s plant closed in 2001 — overlap, but not damning evidence.  Plus, the man’s wife died in 2006, five years after the plant closed.  His wife didn’t tell him he was sick?  Also peculiar.  I hate to attack this man, an obvious mark, when the super PAC is responsible for manipulating him and his tragedy.  This ad certainly crosses a line — one can disagree with Romney without accusing him of being a disinterested ivory-tower death dealer.  That’s the kind of unreasonable dirt that could definitely backfire.
