Soda. All the Calories of Beer with None of the Positive Side Effects

After he lost about 324 pounds or so a few years ago to run for President, Mike Huckabee said something I’ll never forget:  “never drink calories.”  Although I’ll never eliminate the liquid calorie from my daily activities, I do try to cut back on certain things, like soda or Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee (that one is extremely difficult for me) because those beverages offer nothing other than fat and fatigue.

Apparently, I’m not alone.  According to one study, Americans consume just as many calories from soda as they do from alcohol.  The lesson?  Cut back on the soda.  That way you’ll feel less guilty when drinking beer, which let’s face it, at least has positive side effects that you just can’t with other liquid refreshments.  Maybe that’s why Bloomberg hasn’t gone after awesome German bars that serve fantastic beer in enormous steins.  And if he does, I’m joining the revolution.

Mike, you’re partially on the right track, however, my recommendation – a good glass of Aussie (or Napa, Russian River, Monterey) red. Far fewer calories, and even more benefit than beer. I have a medicinal glass 4-5 nights a week.

That said, 105 here today, an ice cold Steinlarger was just the treat after mowing the ‘lower 40′. (I live on several acres, just outside the city)
