On the Eve of 2013, Two Contrasting Views of America

While going through my routine Internet rounds this morning I needed only go to Hot Air to find two articles which so perfectly contrast the main philosophical struggle in America today.

Here’s a New York Times editorial simply titled “Let’s Give Up on the Constitution.”  It is modern progressivism in its essence.

This article contains a link to a George Will speech contrasting who should rule, and religion’s role in maintaining a republic with democratic self-rule.  It is very conservative and honest.

The technocratic statist viewpoint versus the limited government republican one — it’s the major philosophical struggle within America politics for at least 100 years now.  Unfortunately, the statists have been winning as Jefferson once predicted: “The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.”

Perhaps as our liberty erodes more and more in 2013 through higher taxes, more public debt, and political gamesmanship, more people will take notice and try to slow down the trend.
